Vibes

To start off, I wanted to evoke an infectious sense of adventure, human connection, and joyful exploration — the perfect vibe for a translation app for breaking language barriers. I wanted to bring in vibrant imagery including lush jungles, serene oceans, bustling street markets, and airplane takeoffs, while also inviting in the human element of global travel and cultural experiences. The artistic illustrations mixed with real-life photos add a playful yet inclusive tone, signaling that the app isn’t just a tool for understanding—it’s an invitation to experience the world more fully. This visual mood encourages curiosity and discovery through language.


My client came to me with an application that lacked personality, hierarchy and usability. My role in this project was to improve branding, create a foundational component library, and help the stakeholder create the shortest flows from point A to point B.

Colors

Directed by the imagery curated above, I chose ocean blues and vibrant yellows for the color pallet. I made sure every color passed contrast with the primary blacks and whites in both dark and light modes.

Font Pack

I wanted to keep the fonts simple, sans-serif and easy to read.

Components Lite

To begin with a visual product I wanted to create accessible components with the colors and fonts I chose, from here I would do semi-high fidelity designs to help the stakeholder see how the changes could look.

Before + After

The image on the left is the rudimentary design sent to me by the stakeholder and developer. The original design lacked hierarchy, had contrast issues and other fatal flaws. I was able to present a more usable design, with limited CTA’s which provided the user exactly the know-how
